Allow me to tell you a story about a time the shoe Allow me to tell you a story about a time the shoe (boot) just didn’t fit. 🎿

Andrew and I left home for a short staycation to Michigan this week, where we stayed in the most beautiful cabin. Andrew was really excited to try skiing, and I reluctantly agreed to try a lesson and some bunny slopes with him.

Turns out to my embarrassment: my calves were too wide for the boots. Even with braces in the sixth grade I’ve had thick calves and thighs. That’s just the way God made me. Boots #1 (and attempt #2) felt like my circulation was being cut off. I couldn’t even walk to the lifts, much less ski. Surely there have been others that came before me with wide calves, too? Lots of money was wasted, and I walked away really frustrated and frankly, embarrassed. I thought at 31 I’d feel really comfortable in my own skin, and this kind of thing wouldn’t throw me off. But I’m still learning to be comfortable with my body, and with where I am in my career, childless in my 30s, with anxiety, a health condition and just a general feeling of fitting in in the world.

I don’t have a nice and tidy bow to tie up this story with, other than: it is perfectly okay to not feel like you fit in, and it’s okay to not fit in the boots. If you have ever been in a situation where something didn’t fit, or worse, YOU felt like you didn’t fit... I see you. So for now I move on, and maybe give skiing another try on another day. Or I just move on and accept and love the things that fill me up. Like hiking, and beautiful views of Lake Michigan, and reading by the fire. Oh and trying those local bakery treats, because you can bet I won’t be missing out on those. ♥️

“Imagine a rope tethering you to Andrew. Even if “Imagine a rope tethering you to Andrew. Even if he’s not in the room, you are tethered together.” These wise words from my counselor made me think of the rope of three cords we tied at our wedding ceremony (swipe to see!).

We went into this surgery together as a team. I was filled with so much anxiety leading up to my laparoscopy excision surgery for endometriosis this week. I’m thankful to be alive, well and on the med! We have walked through painful times in our past eight years of marriage, some we are still walking through. I can very easily recall being on the other side of things, sitting in a waiting room while Andrew was in surgery. I strongly believe we are tethered and we are a team in all things. I could not have gotten through this surgery without @andrewheimbiz’s constant reassurance, support and always being up for whatever makes me feel most comfortable.

I am working on a blog post/video about my experience with endometriosis, and laparoscopy surgery. I did in fact have a lot of endometriosis tissue, and a large cyst. Our pain is real. One out of ten women have endometriosis, and it takes an average of ten years to get diagnosed. I have received several questions about endo and surgery, and please keep them coming! I am happy to share my personal experience, in hopes that it might help even one woman. ♥️ More than anything, I’m a friend who is happy to listen and empathize because I know what you’re going through! DM me anytime, endo sisters!

I miss #laurenheimworkshops, gathering in one room I miss #laurenheimworkshops, gathering in one room and lettering with you in person! With all the treats, creativity and conversation. I have high hopes of resuming Brush Lettering 101 Workshops in Kansas City in 2021. But I also find something so magical about being able to reach and connect with women I otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to, by teaching online.

I know Zoom gets a bad rap this year for endless boring meetings, but I couldn’t be more grateful for technology. Because at #laurenheimletteringclub, our live workshops are not your typical Zoom meeting experience! At #laurenheimletteringclub, my new monthly lettering community, we are able to gather with women both in and out of Kansas City. Women at all walks and stages of life, with busy schedules, 9-5s, running businesses, homeschooling children, in college, retired, starting first jobs, going back to school, raising newborns. Life is busy. But thanks to technology we we can fit creating together consistently into our busy schedules. Every single month, I share a new video, supply list and worksheets, encouraging you to create a new lettering project!

Connection and creativity can and has happened from afar. I’ve seen lettering make waves in your lives, like it has in mine. I probably would not have taken this step had it not been for the pandemic. When I thought 2020 was slamming the door shut on my workshops, it actually opened a new door to teaching you online. I am grateful for you, for technology, and unexpected blessings this weird year has brought!

Enrollment is open for #laurenheimletteringclub through TOMORROW, Wednesday 12/30 at midnight and won’t open again until spring. If you hope to bring some creativity and self-cafe to your new year, please join us!

Have you tried a new creative outlet in 2020? Tell me! 👇
Just wanted to say hi, hello and welcome if you ar Just wanted to say hi, hello and welcome if you are new here! 👋 I’m Lauren, and I own a lot of pens. 🖊 I use them for work, so that is my excuse for my pen addiction. A few months of the year, I package and sell ornaments that represent my hometown, KC! The other 10 months of the year I teach hand lettering workshops. I taught myself lettering about a decade ago, and found it was such a feel-good creative outlet for my anxiety. I started teaching workshops because I wanted to share that feeling with others. For the past five years, I have solely taught workshops in person in Kansas City, but come 2020 I started teaching online. And wouldn’t you know it, I LOVE it. In October we launched #laurenheimletteringclub. It is a creative community, where I teach a new hand lettered project each month! The goal is regular self-care and creativity, and the ladies in this group are incredible. Enrollment for #laurenheimletteringclub is open through this Wednesday 12/30 at midnight, and won’t open again until spring. We are kicking off January with my most favorite project, bullet journaling!

2020 has been a lot of things, some of them really painful. But getting to be creative regularly with a group of women that I genuinely adore has been more than I ever could have hoped, and I am so grateful. I hope you will join us, and create space for yourself and your creativity!
